Faced with this extremely dramatic and sad situation in which we find ourselves all over the planet, the events sector has been greatly affected with almost all WEDDINGS and EVENTS scheduled for spring and summer 2020 being cancelled.

Without knowing HOW or WHEN “normal life” will return, it is now that your Wedding Planner will become your Guardian Angel…because they will be the one to take charge of contacting all of your providers and arranging to everything to rebooked for your new wedding date. And believe me…despite being a lot of work, they will be happy to go through all the options available so that you don’t have to worry…its all part of the job.

In response to the doubts that couples raise about cancelling their wedding, we want to reassure all those couples who are now facing this, PLEASE DON’T WORRY, although it may appear to be complicated to postpone your wedding, it is easier than it seems.

a) First, your Wedding Planner will need to coordinate, on your behalf, the cancellation of your initial wedding date with the different suppliers hired: Catering, photographer, DJ, hairdresser, florist … do not forget how important this part is, as there will be suppliers who already have much of the material ready or commissioned for your wedding!!

b) Your Wedding Planner will let you know what dates are available for next year for the key elements of your wedding; church, venue and catering.

c) IT’S A GOOD TIME TO BE POSITIVE, REGROUP AND DECIDE ON A NEW DATE! At this point, you must not be sad…it’s time to be POSITIVE that you have the opportunity to choose a new date. More and more weddings are held on the Costa de Sol each year as we enjoy fantastic temperatures and have 325 days a year on sunshine. Also, don’t rule out autumn and winter weddings….they have a special charm and are wonderful!!!

d) Tell your guests the new weddings date and insist that your greatest wish is that they can all attend. A wedding seems to us the best way to celebrate that all this is finally over.

e) Postpone your honeymoon. One of the sectors most affected is the tourism sector. Don’t cancel your trip, postpone it. Postpone it to another date, combine vacation days, come to an agreement with your work and take your honeymoon at another time.

f) What do we do with the decorations we had hired for the wedding? DON’T WORRY, any materials and decorations that have already been ordered and made can be saved for the new date. Caterers and florists do not buy their goods that far in advance, so this will not be a problem. Yes, the invitations already sent out will have to be redone but think of this as an opportunity to change the design if that provides inspiration for your new date and look at prices with other suppliers!!!

Given that the number of vegans in the UK alone quadrupled between 2014 and 2018, with close to 600,000 Brits now identifying as vegan, and in the US, the number of vegans grew by 600% between 2014 and 2017, going from almost 4m to 19.6m, it was only a matter of time before we started to see a demand for Vegan menus at weddings. A vegan wedding may well be the first time the majority of guests have ever tasted a vegan meal, and it usually comes as a very good surprise for them!

To complement the Vegan menus, stationary and decorations can also be sustainable. Invitations can be sent out on recycled paper, likewise, place names and table plans can all be made from natural products, confetti (flower petals not paper!) is placed with bird or meadow seeds place in paper cones. Table decorations are made using the local flowers in season – easy in Andalucia, olive branches and lush green fauna make wonderful table garlands!

If you’re planning a Vegan wedding, whether people think it’s fair or not, people are going to be looking for things lacking in the food and experience, so brides and grooms should expect to come across their fair share of vegan naysayers, especially among older guests.

Don’t have the expectation that menu pricing will be cheap because it is vegan. It wont be, as it is more usual to have buffets, and food stations, which offer guests a lot of choices – opportunities for ‘food grazing’ on delicious cheese and bread stations, or ‘vegetable gardens’ are a great way to ensure guests have enough to eat throughout the evening.

You can’t presume everyone loves a vegan burger – you need to have enough options so that no one can say that something was missing from your big day or they left dissatisfied.
When all is said and done, it is your wedding, your day, your choice! It’s important to not worry about pleasing the people who are determined to be negative about the experience, and to not take their comments personally.

In our experience, non-vegan guests are surprised and delighted at how delicious vegan food is, when prepared by professionals.

Statistically Marbella has the best climate in Europe in Winter months, the micro climate ensuring that daytime temperatures average around 18 ºC throughout the winter months (which for Marbella means November – February!).  With daylight hours spanning 10 -11 hours, it is a perfect time for a winter wedding.

Sharing with our readers some photos of a really beautiful November wedding which was held at one of Marbella’s iconic beachfront 5 star hotels.  The day of the wedding, the temperature hit 23ºC.  The bride and groom and family (60 guests) travelled over from New York, all staying at the hotel.
